Manga 'Sousei no Onmyouji' Ends 11-Year Serialization
Yoshiaki Sukeno's Sousei no Onmyouji (Twin Star Exorcist) manga ended in Jump SQ.'s October issue on Wednesday. The 134th chapter marked the conclusion of the manga's nearly 11-year run.
Sukeno began serializing the action fantasy manga in Jump SQ in November 2013, four months after completing Binbougami ga! (Good Luck Girl!). Shueisha published the 34th volume on July 4, with the 35th and final volume planned for a November 1 release. Sousei no Onmyouji has a cumulative 7.5 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
A 50-episode television anime produced by animation studio Pierrot aired from Spring 2016 to Winter 2017. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with English subtitles and dub. Funimation released the anime on four Blu-ray discs between July 2018 and January 2019.
VIZ Media licensed the manga in English and released the 31st volume on May 21, with the 32nd volume scheduled to go on sale on November 19. Shueisha's Manga Plus platform also simulpublished the manga in English.
Hajime Tanaka penned three side story light novels under Shueisha's Jump J-Books imprint from August 2016 to December 2018, featuring illustrations by Sukeno.
Synopsis
For centuries, terrifying creatures—known as "Kegare"—from the parallel realm Magano have wreaked havoc throughout Japan. The brave men and women resisting their onslaught are secretive exorcists whose one and only goal is to eradicate all the Kegare.
In the present day, 14-year-old Rokuro Enmadou is a talented and powerful exorcist. However, a tragic event in the past caused him to resent exorcists and give up his dream of becoming the strongest. In stark contrast to him, Benio Adashino is a beautiful and prodigious exorcist of the same age who carries the hopes and dreams of all people.
These two teenagers, despite their differences, are the prophesied "Twin Star Exorcists": the two people destined to give birth to the Miko—the exorcist who will vanquish the Kegare and cleanse the world of all impurities. But as the adolescents are both far from maturity, let alone adulthood, only hardships and trials await the unlikely heroes. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
